Words Matter: How Politicians Talk About Race and Disability

Recent elections have been filled with dialogue from candidates and leaders that stereotypes and stigmatizes people with disabilities and people of color. This “uncivil discourse” has now filtered down to discussions on social media and between family members and neighbors. Presenters on this webinar will speak about how language from our leaders — and ourselves — can perpetuate ableism and racism and what we can do to create change and demand respect.
Please join us Thursday, September 17th, from 1 – 3 PM PT.
Presenters include:
  • Tony Anderson, Executive Director, Valley Mountain Regional Center
  • Howard McBroom, Self-Advocate
  • Stephanie Keeney Parks, Parent, Author and Researcher on Race and Disability
  • Dr. Kristin Prater, Leaps n’ Boundz
  • Dr. Beth Ribet, Repair and UCLA School of Law
  • Lisa Szylagi, Parent and Founder, Director of Programming, Aurelia Foundation – Creative Steps
  • Wesley Witherspoon, Consumer Advocate, USC University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Member, State Council on Developmental Disabilities

Presenters to be announced.
