Brian Gutierrez serves as the Project Manager of Outreach and Leadership Training at Disability Voices United.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services and a Master of Science in Counseling with an emphasis on Rehabilitation Counseling, both from California State University, Los Angeles. Additionally, Brian earned a graduate certificate as a Disability Resource Specialist from Northern Arizona University. Currently, he is pursuing a second master’s degree in Disability Services in Higher Education at the City University of New York, School of Professional Studies.
Brian actively participates in several influential disability advisory committees at both the national and state levels. He is a member of the Community Advisory Board for the Disability Justice Center at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where he provides valuable insights to enhance services and advocacy for individuals with disabilities in Maryland and nationwide. He also serves on the Adults Healthcare and Research Advisory Committees of the Spina Bifida Association, contributing to person-centered research and healthcare strategies designed to meet the needs of the Spina Bifida community. Additionally, Brian is a dedicated member of the California Spina Bifida Association Advisory Council, working collaboratively with self-advocates, families, and stakeholders to address barriers and improve the quality of life for individuals living with Spina Bifida in California.
Brian’s commitment to advocacy is deeply personal, as he draws from his own experiences living with Spina Bifida to influence policymakers and drive systemic change. Through storytelling and open dialogue, he seeks to shed light on the challenges faced by people with disabilities, advocating for policies that foster inclusivity, accessibility, and meaningful support systems across California and the U.S.
A proud California native, Brian was raised in South Gate, California. He is the eldest of four siblings and the son of Mexican immigrants.
