Christopher Montgomery, MD, MPH, is an emergency medicine physician and health systems improvement researcher, currently at UCLA. His work focuses on how health care systems can better recognize the person behind the patient, particularly through Humanistic Charting, an initiative designed to help patients and families communicate who they are, what matters to them, and what they want their care teams to understand.
Christopher’s background includes work in public health, patient safety, quality improvement, and health care systems redesign. Across these roles, he has become particularly interested in how systems can unintentionally make people feel unseen and how those systems can be redesigned around dignity, autonomy, and the priorities of the people they serve. He approaches his work with Disability Voices United as an ally and learner and is committed to listening to people with disabilities and their families, supporting self-determination, and helping build health care systems that are more responsive, equitable, and human.
