Speakers Training
Your story can change the conversation.
Are you passionate about advocating for the rights and inclusion of individuals with disabilities? Do you believe that your unique perspective and experiences can make a difference? Disability Voices United is committed to supporting you in sharing your story and advocating for the services and support we all need.
Take advantage of this free training program to become a driving force for change in your community – whether you are an experienced speaker or new to public advocacy.
The Training
This free program is comprised of four virtual sessions on Zoom: an orientation and three training sessions. Support personnel may join you during the program, and accommodations are available for persons needing Spanish or ASL translation.
Training will focus on giving you the tools to be an effective presenter, and sessions will emphasize identifying who you are as an advocate, practicing sharing your story in a compelling way, and learning how to recognize and reach your audience.
Through presentations, guest speakers, and practice sessions, we will guide you in effectively communicating:
- Who you are as the messenger.
- What your compelling message is.
- Who your audience is and how to reach them.
Your practice sessions will involve presenting your personal advocacy story on a topic of your choice related to disability. Previous trainees have covered topics such as supported decision-making, inclusion in education, the right to communication, and access to transportation. You can choose the topics that interest you!
